Why we need to stop making fun of how celebrities look

We are too comfortable criticising people, especially celebrities’ bodies online.

We can be so mean online [CDAC]

While we might comment on their outfits, their bodies should be off-limits.

One of the disadvantages of social media is the amount of privilege and access it gives us to the lives of people. We are now bold enough to say the meanest things behind the obscurity of our phone’s keypad.

Here’s why it needs to stop.

Many celebrities like Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande have spoken up about how they are struggling with different mental and physical challenges hence their weight gain or loss. People were making nasty comments about them so they had to speak out.

In much the same way, Black Panther star, Chadwick Boseman was battling cancer while people made fun of him for being skinny.

How would you feel if thousands of people made fun of you? I don’t need a soothsayer to say you wouldn’t like that. Sometimes, we think celebrities are immune to feeling hurt, but they aren’t.

An American celeb, Anya Taylor-Joy, recently said she doesn’t look at mirrors because of how much she was trolled online.

When we see someone doing a lot of plastic surgery, we need to learn how to stop giving unsolicited comments or calling them plastic. Most times, they are incredibly uncomfortable in their natural bodies and plastic surgery makes them feel better about themselves.

This is the most important part of it, whatever anyone decides to do with their bodies, or however they are shaped, is not your business.
