While the woman gets an engagement ring, the man ought to be gifted with an expensive engagement watch, this watch ought to be passed down from generation to generation as a family heirloom.
The bride and her family are expected to pay for the wedding dress, veil, wedding planner, wedding invitations, wedding programs, photography and videography, transportation and accommodation for bridesmaids, pre-wedding parties, reception, flowers and decor and the wedding cake.
In Nigeria, most families split the wedding expenses, one pays for the traditional wedding, and the other pays for the white wedding, or they make arrangements for their side of the family.
While the bride’s family finances the entire wedding, the groom’s family pays for the marriage license, officiant fee, the rehearsal dinner if any, the transportation of the groom’s family and groomsmen and the honeymoon.
Traditionally the bride should buy her groom’s engagement ring, though her family might help her out.
